Week 3: Sebastian's Headshot

No takers last week. But the exercise was still rewarding and taught me some things about how to be in the face of "No". So I turned to working on a good head shot for Sebastian. We'll keep working.

Week 1: Eating the Frog!!

Saturday morning as I left the house headed for an all day business meeting in Long Beach, I could not shake the sinking feeling that I had set an intention for 2017 and was already going to break it in the first week of the year. I had challenged myself to capture at least one portrait each week that I would want to add to my portfolio. So the mission was 52 portraits by the last week of 2017.

I packed my camera with me knowing that Saturday would be my last opportunity to make good on the promise I had made to myself.  During the meeting I did not let myself be distracted by the fear of not fulfilling this goal. But rather focused on what each of the speakers had to say.

After the session was over, my thoughts raced back to finding someone to photograph before the day was over. After all, it was later in the day and I was beginning to lose daylight.  Where would I even begin to look?? As I was making my way back to my car, I passed a brother in the hotel lobby who was definitely a standout. I said "What's up?" as customary and just kept walking. Three steps past and I knew I was going to have to circle back. I stopped in my tracks for just a split second to compose myself, then turned around and said "Hi again."

I proceeded to enroll a complete stranger in what I was up to. And he and his business partner sat patiently and engaged for the whole time.

I'm so glad I pushed past my fears and approached this individual. Perry turned out to be one of the nicest people I would meet that day.  And our impromptu photo session which probably lasted about 15 minutes on the second level of the hotel parking structure yielded an image (actually a few frames I could choose from) that I'd be proud to add to the port. What a way to kick off this project - and year for that matter.

Perry-James, thanks for being such a gracious subject. It was truly a pleasure working with you.

Now on to week 2. :)
